MediaCityUK may have only opened within the past decade, but it's had its fair share of successful businesses located within the area and it is also home to parts of BBC, ITV Granada and the media department of the University of Salford. Located in Salford Quays, MediaCityUK offers a dynamic atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Manchester - a real business hub.
Here are 6 MediaCityUK aspiring start-ups that you should be following:
1. Now GP
Now GP is a revolutionary new start-up which connects GPs with patients through remote video consultation - cutting out the time needed to book and attend appointments, whilst still being able to 'see' a doctor and have medication delivered - with the same confidentiality agreements in place that you would get from any GP. Now GP is still in its early days but it is definitely one to watch - think about how much time you would save just flicking to an app instead of going to the doctors? Amazing.
2. Formisimo
Digital agency Formisimo may not have started in MediaCityUK but with VC and Angel backing, they are a rapidly expanding technology start-up. From online forms, to checkouts and contact forms, Formisimo works to improve the user journey through the steps of the buyer journey which normally frustrate users. They stated for Prolific North;
"We moved to MediaCityUK because of the amenities and transport links. We wanted our staff to get here easily, and we need good coffee and food! It's a vibrant place to work, there's always something exciting happening, and it's all on our doorstep"
3. Rule 5
Rule 5 is a PR, Communications and Social Media start-up which works across a range of sectors including sport, fashion, food and consumer brands. They may have been around just 3 years but they are already multi-award winning, being named 'Outstanding Newcomer' in the Prolific North Awards, 2013 and winner of the 'Sport Campaign of the Year' within one of their very first years. The team has an impressive background and includes Julie Wilson, ex Head of Consumer at Staniforth. A power to be reckoned with in the PR and Communications industry!
4. 4dimmersive
4dimmersive is a revolutionary business especially in the education and healthcare sectors. Creating immersive spaces (designed in MediaCityUK), controlled by the touch of the button, 4dimmersive is only just at the beginning of their exciting journey. In 2013, they were approached by MerseyCare NHS Trust to create an immersive space within their dementia assessment ward. Since then they have moved leaps and bound to offer unique environments to their clients to benefit health and wellness whilst exuding creativity.
5. GAS Music
GAS delivers unique, high quality sound and music design solutions to their clients from the heart of MediaCityUK. From commercials, to radio, gaming to television, GAS composes music for a range of different media and entertainment purposes. With an aim to be the industry's most respected music composers, GAS constantly produces beautifully created music in their distinctive style. Their clients include the likes of the BBC and Saatchi & Saatchi, a company to keep your eye on over the next few years - we have a feeling there's more to come!
6. Phantom Sun
Ran by former BBC lead editors, Phantom Sun provides remote editing services using state of the art cloud technology. Based in Orega's Blue Tower, the company is currently working with a business in Bristol called QuadLogic Systems to develop "flexible, cost-effective workflows" using NAS and cloud systems. Phantom Sun have worked on projects such as the latest Bear Grylls series which they were able to deliver at short notice, on budget and with the "highest quality staff". Keep an eye out for Phantom Sun; we think we'll be hearing a lot more from them!
